POEM STARTER
Inspired by Maranda Quinn
Write a poem centred around the theme of destruction.
Construction
Screaming.
Our world is crashing.
Dreaming.
What could we have been?
Beaming.
We use to be so happy…
Gleaming.
Another tear down my cheek.
I miss this.
I miss us.
I miss it.
I’d never amount to anything without you. This pain in my chest is dragging me under. Fighting just to stay alive, it hurts. Long nights, laying in bed I wonder if this is you too.
Do you fall asleep easily without thinking of me? Do you wake up and brush your teeth without wishing I was there to make faces in the mirror?
Do you still wish I could lay in your bed and take care of you when you get sick? …if you’re anything like me, you probably lose sleep over what could be.
The people in your life don’t satisfy you. Your mind is constantly somewhere else. You gaze from a window, eyes glassy. You don’t blink… you simply breathe. You simply be…
Destruction.
World burning to bits.
Reduction.
But by bit I waste away.
Construction.
I sure do hope you rebuild…
Even if it’s without me.
