POEM STARTER
Submitted by Brittany Lawson
Write a poem about someone stuck in a cycle of self destruction. Just as they are about to exit the cycle or have a breakthrough, the poem starts back at the beginning.
PMDD
_This is a poem describing how it feels to deal with the condition PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.) It's basically PMS but on steroids. Enjoy. _
Finally the cycle ends.
I am back to normal
For now.
I can rest.
But a week passes,
Then I'm back
To the dreaded thoughts
The feelings,
Inescapable,
Impossible to control.
I search
For someone else
Who understands.
Understands how I feel,
Doesn't tell me I'm crazy.
I don't mean to be this way.
I'm sorry for being so
Turbulent.
So emotional.
So unstable.
I can't control it.
Then sit in my room at night,
Spiraling,
Being crushed
Under the weight of uncertainty.
It's exhausting.
I'm so tired so tired so tired.
Then suddenly
I see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Still emotional,
But not all day.
It lessens day by day,
Until my period starts.
Then I'm back to normal.
For now.
Finally the cycle ends.
I will rest.
Until a week passes.
