I’d Like To Report A Crime
“He didn’t even try to deny taking her out for drinks.” April exclaim, “I gave him 5 years of my life only to find out he considered things to be open between us.”
“You’ve always had your suspicions about Brett,” Dani responded, “I mean he was always out “with the guys” while you were out of town.”
“I didn’t want to believe it…” April said quietly.
Dani questioned softly, “So tell me, what happened?”
“I was at Brett’s place and two cops come to the door asking about some missing girl, Cassie Roberts. They said she was supposed to meet up with Brett the last time anyone saw her.” April explained, “I was fuming, Dani! Why would Brett be meeting with some other girl?”
“I think it’s pretty obvious, April.”
“He left with the cops. They needed to take his statement or something. He calls me 3 hours later and tells me he took this girl out for drinks 3 nights ago. Telling me some bullshit story about how he ran into her the day before, upset and asked her out on a pity date.” My blood was boiling again, “Honestly, Dani, how does he expect me to believe that?!”
“April, this better be the last straw. You’re better than Brett.”
“I guess his date didn’t go too well. Cassie had some ex or something who saw them together and flipped out. That’s how he got the scrapes and bruises he didn’t want to talk about.”
“So they didn’t arrest him? What the hell happened?”
“Brett claims he’s innocent of being a cheating whore and of anything to do with this girl’s disappearance. He said there wasn’t any evidence to hold him, so they let him walk.”
“What about the tablets you said you found in his apartment?” Dani asked.
“I don’t know,” April hesitated, “But I’d like to make sure Brett faces some kind of consequences for doing this.”
April got off the phone with Dani and walked up the sidewalk, opening the door to the police station. Entering the building she locked eyes with a woman sitting behind a desk. “Hello, I’d like to report a crime.”
