The Cycle
We are all like plants
Plants who start off being inside of something
Something comforting, safe, and protective
Ensuring whoever’s in there will come out just fine
The seed planted eventually gets the plant out
The plant is just a small stem
Sticking out of the ground
New to the world
The plant continues to grow
It has a few more leaves
A few more petals
But still has more room left to grow
The little plant smiles
Moving around wildly, having fun
Being out in the sun, listening to music from the radio nearby
Seeing all the animals and other small flowers to play with
The little plant gets more leaves, more petals
Gets bigger, taller
But not as much as other plants
Making the plant a bit insecure, worried
Some plants and animals take notice of this
Talk behind and make fun of the plant
Making the plant feel bad
But not for too long
As he often forgets what they say
When he’s with his friends
Friends who make the plant happy
Who make the plant feel at peace
The little plant gets much more taller and bigger
Has much more petals and leaves
Looks more wrinkly, saggy but not quite
Still smiling despite looking more tired
Still hanging out with friends
Both other plants and animals
Who have also gotten older
Slower in what they do
The little plant gets to be quite old
Looking very tired, very wrinkly, very saggy
And so do his animal and plant friends
The little plant looks over and sees new seeds
Those seeds getting planted, soiled, watered
Just as much as the plant did as it was starting to grow
As the plant watched, it realized something
It realized that once those flowers start to bloom, we would be doomed
Doomed to die
To make way for the other plants
The new ones
Along with the new animals
As it also saw something else
It saw several rabbits, raccoons, squirrels
Pregnant ones
A select few of them being pregnant
But, despite the end being near for it
For its good friends
It didn’t feel sad or frown
It still smiled
Smiled for others
Other plants and animals
Coming out from wombs, sticking out of the ground
New to the world
