STORY STARTER

Write about an important event in your life from the perspective of someone close to you.

Really try to think about how and why someone else would relate to this event, don't just write about your own experience. It could be a fictional event if preferred.

My New Home

Everything around me was cold; so, so cold. This man who I’ve seen a few times before opened my door and let me out of my room. Around me there was so much noise and I was so frightened the hair stood up on the back of my neck.

We made our way down a long, metal hallway for what seemed like ages. I was blinded by sun as we entered a room I had never seen before. There were two women, a tall, red headed woman and an equally tall brown hair woman. The red headed was crouched down with her arms open. But, she could kick rocks. I immediately ran to the woman with brown hair. She was lovely and smelled like the outdoors. Slowly, she reached down to pet my head. It seemed like she was more afraid than I was, and the red headed woman was smiling from ear to ear.

“If we’re getting her, we’re naming her Daisy,” muttered the brown haired woman. Right now, my name is Harper, I had another name before that, but it was lost to time.

When I first came to this metallic place, I was described as over breed and under fed. I had people poking and prodding me every corner I turned. I was placed in a small crate with dogs all around me, and I HATE other dogs. I was so scared.

But these two women seemed nice enough. They took me outside and we went for a walk. “Ya know, she ran right up to you. She knows who she has to win over,” smirked the red head.

“Well we can’t say we’re not bringing her home now, not in front of her. That would be rude,” the brunette sighed. I didn’t know what they meant though. Take me home? I thought this metal world was my new home. Before this, I was roaming the streets. Could I really have a home? With a couch and a warm place to sleep at night? Food every day and maybe even a bone?

We walked back inside the bright room. The two women took my to the side and waited for what seemed like forever until the man came out and told them they were okay to take me home. He used that word “home” again. My tail started going back and forth without me even thinking about it. These two women, these were my new mommies! And I was going to have a home! I promise, I will be the best dog you’ve ever had.

*writers note: this is written from the perspective of Daisy, our English bulldog. She now has a home with a bone, pajamas, and all the snuggles she could ever want*
