i used to hate her

before the stars fell

i hated the way she had perfect curls,

no, not hated,

i resented her

i was jealous of her beauty

her bright blue eyes

her straight A’s

the way she could get any guy

i resented her the way the moon resents the sun

jealous of the spotlight

but now,

i miss her laugh

her perfect

smile

she fell when the stars did

she was a star too

but she fell because of a war lost

she fought against herself
