Clare stared out the window, gazing at the neon-colored city when she heard the door slam open, the nightly dose of misery (the evening news) droning on in the back of her mind as her on-again, off-again boyfriend (sort of) charged in. All other functions and internet browsing came to a halt; she could see it in his eyes. Well, she could see eyes that weren’t his. She turned the news back on, paid the premium to reach the fastest internet speed possible (she’d cancel it before the charges started getting out of control), and speed-skipped her way to the sad, violent incident of that morning.

“Around 5 am today, a man dressed up as some kind of hero from those old large screen-based video displays flew into NewTrupec headquarters using their own enhancers to collapse the building.” Clare began to see a slowed-down eyewitness point of view of her dumbass boyfriend (they lived together, so he basically was). In his Superman costume, drugged up and covered in strange but dangerous-looking cybernetics, he offered up a really nice insurance check to another dangerous mega-corporation that had enough money reserved elsewhere to not be affected in the slightest by what the man she dreamt of marrying (well, maybe saying that was a bit of a stretch) had done.

Back in the present, Jim and his blood-covered Superman costume both fell to the floor of Clare’s apartment. His skin covered in fresh wounds where cybernetics had been ripped out by debris before his red drugged eyes closed; he whispered, “I finally fuckin did it,” then he drifted off. Clare burned Jim’s body herself, knowing full well that the cops would be high and aggressive if they showed up. As Clare drifted off to sleep, she tuned into the next news report, “5 more people dressed in old-world costumes have crashed into different NewTrupec buildings assessing where the most damage could be achieved using NewTrupec drugs.” Her little dumb superhero may have done something for once.

P.S. this was barely on prompt but I have not liked the last few prompts I have gotten this was a better prompt.
