POEM STARTER
Write a poem about taking a gamble.
Your interpretation can include the classic ideas associated with gambling, or something more metaphorical.
Alea ludere in domo antiquae matris
Four of the same men are my worst sin
Dressed and looking all like my end
Royal spoons laid across all around the table
I would run out on this devil's game if able
My first time losing they took my head
How this filled my body with inexplicable dread
Second time losing they took my heart
I would have noticed their tricks if I was still smart
Third time losing they took my soul
I gave up on winning the losing had taken it's toll
If there was a way I would bet my body if I could
But a body without a firm will is no good
Losing reminds me I've gambled more than I lost
A job, A love, A family is thy cost
If only I could bet once more again
I promise if given another chance I'd win
A savior or prince who would say the magic cheer
'Double or nothing' was the only advice I needed to hear
