Write a poem titled “You Never Asked, But…”

Unsaid sentiments may be a prominent theme in this poem.

You Never Asked, But…

You never asked, but I’ve moved on.

You never asked, but I cried every day.

You never asked, but she has your smile.

You never asked, but she has your laugh.

You never asked, but she loved you— even when you didn’t love her back.

You never asked, but she doesn’t remember the hate you showed.

You never asked, but she’d sit by the window for hours, waiting for you.

You never asked, but healing was hard— she looks just like you.

You never asked, but doing it alone nearly broke me.

You never asked, but I was scared— just a kid myself.

You never asked, but I had dreams too.

You never asked, but I resented you for being free.

You never asked, but my heart eventually healed.

You never asked, but the bruises slowly faded.

You never asked, but I never learned to trust the same.

You never asked, but I was never the same person after you.

You never asked, but the nightmares are gone.

You never asked, but I don’t check over my shoulder anymore.

You never asked, but I no longer flinch at loud noises.

You never asked, but today I finally saw— it was never my fault, even when you were angry.

You never asked, but I know now that I deserve love.

You never asked, but I learned love isn’t supposed to hurt.

You never asked, but if you truly loved me, you wouldn’t have broken me.

You never asked, but if you cared, you wouldn’t have risked losing me.

You never asked, but I now know— there is no reward for staying in pain.

You never asked, but we made it without you.

You never asked, but despite it all… I’ve chosen to forgive you.
