Report: Just arrived at the hospital. EMTs have given me the report. Cause of victim's death: poison. Trace amounts were left behind at the scene. We're going to get the sample back to the lab and see what we can identify it as. Based on the effects on the body, nothing I've ever seen before. Blood around the nose and mouth. Victim's lungs collapsed and were covered in what looked like the same substance, just hardened and coagulated. Certainly not a peaceful death. Victim also suffered multiple broken ribs. From the crime scene, he must've fallen down the stairs while struggling with the poison. Upon further investigation, we came across a journal belonging to the victim. Based on some of the writings, we suspect foul play. Multiple leads can be deduced from it. First off, his wife. It lists marital problems, but nothing specific. However, Detective Sampson interviewed her just as she got home after we secured the crime scene. She says he's physically and emotionally abusive and also suspects infidelity. We'll question her further, but she's a start. Another intriguing one is a man named Alejandro Ramirez. He's a loan shark down in Lancaster that the victims apparently owed a great deal of money to. Obviously motive, individual wants his money back. We're still looking through the journal seeing if we can gather any more leads and/or motives. I'll document in the next entry.
