Why do roses have thorns?

Write a poem that discusses this question.

Thorns

Why do roses have thorns?

Why must beauty always be tainted?

Blonde hair,

Blue eyes,

Straight A’s

No lies.

Yet no one sees my thorns,

Welcoming me to the dark side.

This pretty face is just a disguise,

Because on the inside,

I’m just thorns and weeds.

Nobody sees the thorns poking into me,

Nobody sees how much I hurt.

They only see the rose flower,

Pretty petals for you,

While I am decaying.

Perfect is never perfect enough in my own mind,

The cursed life of a gifted child,

Never enough,

Never enough,

Never enough.

Thorns stab me,

As I keep my dainty rose smile.

And nobody knows, as I wither away.

Why do roses have thorns?

Because all that is deemed beautiful,

Have a dark side.

Prick my finger,

Let the blood pool,

Smiling all the same.

Never satisfied,

Never proud,

Growing to be better,

These thorns digging into me that I ignore.

Beauty is never free.

No, it all comes with a price.

Smart,

But never enough,

Pretty,

Still never enough.

Kind,

No. Not enough.

You want to rid me of these thorns,

But therapy doesn’t work,

My problems are here stay,

And Self love is a lie.

you all only love the pretty side of me,

No one loves the thorns.

They all leave me in the end.

No one sees,

No one knows,

But when they do,

When they realize my darkness,

A contrast to what they thought I was.

They leave.

They always do.
