WRITING OBSTACLE

Submitted by Frankie Famighetti

Create an origin story for a common saying, such as 'break the ice' or 'once in a blue moon'.

Your story should explain how this expression came to be, and why it means what it does.

Burn The Bridge When We Get There

As dusk drew neigh, we knew it was now or never.

“We can’t take anymore of the hatred and bigotry these people spew! We, as a collective must take care of one another and care for our kind as we are hunted!”

Nothing in their mind was as urgent as this moment. Packing up what used to be in hopes of having any sort of future. I know it is terrifying for me to leave behind what I held sacred. But everything has been corrupted. Even religion revolves around this worlds idol. No creator, simply him. Anything cherished or out of box becomes a crime. Eventually shell shocked into normality.

I cannot abandon who I am nor the possibility offered elsewhere. This once was a beautiful kingdom, exalted and filled with tremendous love is now decaying with black mold as dark as this night… until now

We gather the masses whom knew about this passage way. Through this forest leads to the parts of the kingdom that have yet to be destroyed. It’s an uneasy feeling to be here, but it is the only thing left to do. As I look back, waiting for the last of them to walk the bridge, I pour my lamp oil where I am standing to mark where this ends. Set it ablaze! I am ready to send my past to ashes and become what I was meant to be… alive.
