As the pair crossed the roaring river, they noticed a figure waiting for them on the other side.

Pretty good life

Paula and her brother Jeff spent all day crossing rivers and hills, just to reach their long lost father that left them when they were young.

All day they talked about how much this will change their lives, how they’ll finally be whole.

“Are you ready?” Paula said grabbing Jeff’s hand as they crossed the final river, leading up to the old crickety cabin.

Jeff nodded and they were off.

This river was much scarier then the others, it feared them both, but they remained strong.

As they passed the line dividing them from the river and the new side, Jeff noticed something.

It had been a figure, of what? They had no idea.

“Is it a person? or an animal? Is it our dad?” Jeff asked over and over.

“I’m not sure.” Paula said backtracking toward the river.

They got into an argument, fighting back and forth on whether they should check it out or head back and abort all of their plans.

“You know what. If we really cared why would we still be fighting over this?” Paula asked.

Jeff shook his head and headed back toward the river.

“What’s wrong?”

Jeff smiled and said, “We spent our entire lives and personalities over this one man who didn’t care about us enough to stay 10 years let alone 5. What will this solve? We will either be happy for a second then realize he was good and never came back or we will be upset and disappointed. Then we will return home at a loss of hope. We have each other, what else do we need? Who cares what that thing is. Whatever it is it repersents exactly why we should not be here.”

Paula sighed and ran right over to the river, showing how grateful she is that he had said that.

Jeff runs over and they walk back past the rivers and hills, until they reach their own houses and make a life on their own.

They didn’t have a happily ever after because sometimes life isn’t always happy, but they did have a pretty good life.
