STORY STARTER

Inspired by M.

Write a story where the central plot revolves around graffiti on a wall.

Is it art, vandalism, communication?

Perspective Matters

As all good art does, it suddenly springs up one day without anyone expecting it.

The blank wall that was owned by the pizzeria was practically begging for it to be painted on with how clean the grey concrete was. There were no cracks and no stains of piss from men acting like dogs when there is a bathroom anywhere you go.

The owner of the pizzeria, Joaquin liked it that way. Back home he was used to the mess that came from random corner businesses like theirs. It wasn’t his business to care enough cause he didn’t own. Now that he does though, he’d like to keep his business clean. Minimalistic as the kids would say.

Graffiti art was always vandalism anyways.

Life for him was simple, good food and up to standard cleanliness that no inspector can ever deny.

“Justino! Get the brush!” Joaquin looked at the wall, with a frown. What was he even looking at? Is it supposed to be abstract? Can he sell it?

“Its Justin and woah.” Justino came with the wall brush and a bucket. He stared closely and realized something. “Old man, thats a Paps work! We can’t erase that.”

“Your name is Justino and that’s how I named you into this world. I am your father not an old man.” Joaquin lightly slapped the back of his son’s head. You work so hard and they don’t even claim you as their parent. “And I own this building, we will erase. Now get to scrubbing we have orders.”

“Pops, Paps works go for thousands even millions of dollars.”

“You must think I was born in the yesteryears to be fooled that graffiti, a crime especially one that looks like this can be worth money.”

Justino pulled out his phone and showed his father Paps works. As he watched him scroll, he saw his eyes widen and his pupils looking like dollar signs.

“We must go to the store buy some sealant and we need to hire a guard.” Joaquin said, thanking God that money has finally come to him.

“No one’s going to steal that. Its an entire wall.”

“You said the same thing about my espada, now your japanese friend won’t return it.”

“I told you he’s going to use it for his cosplay.”

“Unless he’s dueling to the death, he has no right to the espada.”

Joaquin would never admit it, but Justino was right. It was a Paps work a infamous artist who’s works indeed cost a lot of money. Whats more it attracts a lot of customers.

“Okay order first then you can take a picture with the Paps wall!” Joaquin warned a crowd who went straight for the wall.

“Dad there’s too many orders, I don’t think I can do this.” Justino complained from the kitchen as the waitresses keep adding on order after order. He was practically drowning.

Grabbing an apron and a hairnet, Joaquin went into the kitchen. Washing his hands first, he scanned the incoming orders. “Simple. Its like holidays.”

“Its a Wednesday.”

People only ordered to have a picture with the wall so as soon as nighttime came around and the good lighting was gone, the orders slowed down. When Justino packed the last pizza order, he collapsed on of the booths.

“Justino.” Joaquin called out to his son. Either he’s sleeping or dead he’s not quite sure.

Justino let him keep thinking on either possibilities as he kept silent.

“I’m going to split the money with you since you’re the one who told me how valuable it is.”

The prospect of money resurrected Justino from the dead and he quickly followed his father outside.

Together they counted the profit in front of the money making wall. Joaquin let Justino have roughly 10% and planned to save the rest for the future. College maybe.

Justino was just happy to have money finally and looked at the wall. “It looks like a horse with 2 dicks doesn’t it?”

“2 big dicks. Its hard enough having one.” Joaquin replied, adjusting the belt on his pants.

They both laughed hard, unknowing of the infamous artist behind them waiting until the coast is clear to vandalize his art.

Paps was famous because once he completed a piece of work, no matter how famous it was or even if it was sold, he’d come back and vandalize it.

Most cases it would be even more successful garnering more value.

But Paps painted the whole thing white as this was one of the pieces he did not like because he had a perfect canvas. He was used to incorporating a wall’s flaws to his work but this one was too clean. It made him be less creative thus the duo dick horse was born.
