I know the prompt asked for a descriptive paragraph, but a story came to me instead. One of those instances when you start to write and what shows up on "paper" is totally different from the original idea.

“Why do you think you have such a hard time forgiving yourself?” he inquired, eyes piercing into her soul. He had the look of someone who was determined to uncover the truth. Or someone who loved solving puzzles, and she sure was an enigma.

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She fidgeted with her neck. In the space where her necklace would have been. The one that had her real name on it. The name that a great portion of her “fans" didn't know.

Her eyes were downcast, looking at the space between her feet.

“I was so young and ambitious. I don't think I did a good job protecting my younger self. I know I could have done so much better.” She said almost imperceptibly.

“You didn’t know though. Unless you can see into the future, you couldn’t have predicted how things turned out.” He tried to reassure her.

He’s been trying to reassure her for weeks now. She was referred to him when her handler noticed she wasn't adjusting well to the afterlife when she arrived. Some days he felt he was making progress with her, on other days, she reminded him of a firefly. When he thought he had her, she slipped right through his fingers.

“I feel like someone who willingly stepped into a cage, locked themselves in, then handed the key to someone else. Except that person is a bit unhinged. They are hard to reason with, so now you’re their unwitting prisoner.” she confessed.

He found himself impressed by her each time they met. She was portrayed as a dumb blonde, but he was fascinated by how her brain worked. How she was so self-aware and full of remarkable insights. It took most of his referrals ions to understand themselves the way she did. It was unfortunate that she could not get past the self-hate, which in his opinion should be one of the deadly sins.
