i was so innocent

so young and so pure

the world was intimidating

but a wide open door

i spoke with honesty

not scared of what others would say

i smiled with my whole body

not just my face

i danced with no care

flung my arms in the air

and sang with my heart

not my head

if you hadn’t grabbed

the knife

stabbed my chest and my mind

i’d still be so fragile and so afraid

roses have thorns

cause if they did not

they’d be pulled apart

and instead of using their strength

they’d die right away
