WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a confession from a police officer who planted evidence to convict someone they believed was guilty.
Would they feel bad, or stick to their original convictions?
True Enough
“Johnny. I’m telling you. I had to do it” Mike explains. Clenching his fists together. “That guy is scum. I couldn’t let him walk these streets free anymore. The guy is a monster of monsters. The things he’s done. The things I’ve seen. It just never stuck! Or there would be some technicality that would let him walk.” John nods his his head. Stoically listening to Mike.
Mike wipes the sweat from his brow with his right hand. “I needed something that would get him in front of a judge with plausible evidence. I had to plant the cocaine!” Mike licks his lips as his stress causes him to dehydrate. He takes a sip of water. “I would do it again! I can’t let him kill one of those kids again!” Mike furrows his brows, “I’ve seen too many! One is too many! Seeing some kid who didn’t know any better…his life taken away by this animal!”
John speaks up, “It’s still against protocol and the law Mike! You know that!” John bangs the wooden table with his fist. “You know better Mike, now it’s you who’s looking at jail time! Your rage blinded your integrity, your character.” John looks Mike in the eyes. “All you did was tamper with evidence that caused him to walk again.” Mike cradles his head in his hands and sobs.
