STORY STARTER

Write a story that starts with a character realising that something in their life must come to an end.

I would’ve waited (sonnet)

I search for you in scriptures, hope alight,

eyes roving over my well worn scribbles.

My simmering love for you held on tight

yet, the logic remaining is little.

I mourn a loss so short in its lifespan,

a poem half written- a song unsung.

I had mapped a journey, a wondrous plan,

and to this day those hopes still remain young.

Time slips from fingers famished and hungry,

I, so desperate for love, deny it’s gone.

I pray it will return so I’ll run free,

before it is broken as it won’t take long.

Yet, I cannot wait forever, it’s too much,

as you do, so do I feel myself slip.

All’s fair in war, it cannot be in love,

for something so soft can’t have a harsh grip.

So watch me let go of the burning rope,

even though I hung on and got so close.
