POEM STARTER
Mysteries of the Night
Whether something natural and beautiful like the stars, or something more sinister, write a poem that focuses on things that are most prominent at night.
look around you
running under the street lights
a spiked drink in my left hand
cigarette in the other one
heart speeding and smile widening
lost friends looking for me
as I let myself free
dangerous eyes around me
permanent hands on my body
a destroyed temple
I just don’t care
hurts less to do so
drink my way up to heaven
as I take the stairs down
I’m not scared
I’ve already met the devil
it’s not a demon with horns
it’s not living in hell
look around you
you’re already there
surrounded by devils
disguised as blessings
so next time you run under the street lights
do not follow the helpless cries
coming from the dark
evil does not care if you have a family
evil does not need your greatness
it thrives on your begging screams
and takes your soul with no empathy
