This story is based on a true story… as always. I think I can not make a story up just because. It needs to be related to my reality. Anyway, it is not what I am going to write about.

What I am going to write is about how translating and studying a new language is not enough to survive. This happened to me in the first couple of months living in an English-speaking country (not my native language)

I remember getting invited to a party by new people. I answer with excitement: Yes! I will be there “obviously”. The conversation just changed to a weird vibe. I didn’t understand why. I didn’t even think it was something that I could’ve done. Not after a close friend part of the same group told me that it obviously sounded a little rude. I’ve never felt that embarrassed in my life. I was not trying to be rude. Opposite situation. I was trying to emphasize the fact that I am going to attend the party.

On the party’s day, I apologized for the misunderstanding. They were comprehensive with me. After all, it is their first time having a new non-English-speaking friend
