Ghosts Of The Past
The key they’d given me still fit the lock but the house no longer felt like home. Many years had passed since I stepped back into my family home. I brushed my finger along the cabinet and inspected the obsene amount of dust that had accumulated. The furniture within had remained untouched and everything looked the same but without my families presence it all felt wrong. I walked into the dining room and spotted the portrait of me, my parents and my little sister on the wall. Their was a light in all of our eyes, a happiness that was not yet lost. If I closed my eyes I could almost imagine I could hear my sister’s laughter as she ran through the hall, bangs from the kitchen from where my mother was preparing food and the tapping of my fathers computer. My chest squeezed painfully when I opened my eyes and I was still alone.
