STORY STARTER
Write a story where a misunderstanding leads to bad consequences.
It could be a small part of your story, or the whole plot could depend on it.
The Sentence
“I just wish she would disappear.” I said in anger when I showed my brother the divorce documents that were served to me.
This one sentence haunts me now as I sit in a jail cell because he acted upon it. I have all the time for reflecting on the events that occurred. “How was I supposed to know that he would actually try to kill her? I never wanted her dead!” I cry out.
I think back to the day after I said the sentence that haunts me. My brother called me and asked, “Does Heather have a life insurance policy?”
“Of course.” I responded. “I believe it’s $100,000”
He let out a giant sigh of relief and said, “Good, don’t change it until you’re fully divorced. You never know what may happen.”
I didn’t think anything of it at the time but now looking back at it, he was already planning to kill her.
Now I sit in jail thinking of all the things I won’t be able to do. I will never see my wife again. I may never see my children again, not to mention they hate me. I may never get to celebrate Christmas, Easter and birthdays again. I won’t be able to go to my daughter’s wedding next year. All because I’m serving a life sentence.
