POEM STARTER
‘Bees offer honey far more readily than they sting.’
Write a poem that begins with this line. What themes can this metaphor reflect?
No Bee
Bees offer honey far more readily than they sting
I danced alone when you refused to sing.
I only laughed to mock the slight of your neglect
I loved you; what else could you expect?
Yet the good was rare,
Just here and there.
A distance of a thousand miles has grown.
The heart's tireless pendulum has stopped, overthrown.
That steady vessel I depended on has sunken deep,
The brightest door opened while I was finally asleep.
Now the good is gone,
Not even here, nor there.
You weren't a bee after all,
You only needed nectar not more.
It’s a smile and a card game,
He who wins the other,
Sets the trophy down and forgets the fight.
