POEM STARTER
Awakening
Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.
Truths Wrath
I lay in a cave with shadows.
I watch as shadow figures toil,
Their gazes always down.
We were taught to fight the light,
To never see color.
One day I grow restless and I look up.
My eyes burn but I can’t turn away
As tears fall down my face.
I feel my soul and heart tearing a painful thing that lasts
But I hear a calling and through the light I go
Every foot step is heavy and pained
Every second my body says no.
My mind and eyes strained
I’ve never felt uncomfortable,
Just very unfulfilled.
Now I feel things changing
As I discover another world
Through the light my eyes adjust
I never knew what it was to see
I see a world of infinite color
And a sky as vast as a mind should be
The seas deep depths are filled with truth
The trees thankful to be heard at last
Whisper Their unheard tales
Tales of men who have infinite wrath.
As I enjoy the vast colors I see things for what they are
The dark beasts I saw as shadows
Were lost men with shallow sight
I don’t know how I came to fight for a place so bright.
A place of undying beauty
A place forever more
A place with no lasting sin
And a place where truth is restored
This is my awakening,
A place of vibrant colors
Built upon endless mistakes
Made upon leaps of undying faith
