A sweet rose can couse deep pain

Families can wear and fray with age

Friends can be toxic and harmful to you

Even in hope there’s despair somewhere

Life can be hard and you can be hurt

Your own mind can trap and lie

Your hands can find a blade to cope

A bottle or two of pills or booze

But thorns can be removed with work

Even if they come back some days

The main thing is the flower

Sometimes it’s hard to see that truth
