POEM STARTER
Write a series of five Haiku set at the same event, exploring the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, taste.
A Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines that generally do not rhyme, with a syllabic structure of 5-7-5.
The Senses Of My Torture Cell
5 things you see:
1) the lunch I don’t want to eat
2) the friends that probably hate me
3) the delivered message he isn’t responding to
4) the homework I didn’t complete
5) the school that made me want to die
4 things you feel:
1) the clothes that I feel insecure in
2) the staircase that made me choose this school
3) the headphones that cancel out the horrible world
4) the jacket covering my scars from before I disappeared
3 things you hear:
1) the jingle of my keys that make me look like I fit in
2) the music that is the only thing that can calm me down
3) my moms voice in my head telling me I’m a disappointment
2 things you taste:
1) the lunch my friends forced me to eat
2) the candy I ate because I couldn’t stop panicking
1 thing you can smell:
1) the smell of panic from the high expectations
