POEM STARTER
You begin to hear a voice singing to you, a voice that nobody else can hear. It slowly grows louder, and carries a sinister message.
Create a poem based on this concept. You may wish to include the voice's words and use them throughout the poem.
naïveté
Sometimes I wish
I didn’t know the world
The crimes and death
I wish I was but a little girl
Now my eyes have been opened
Read the news, watch our phones
We finally know what the
Worst of us come from
And what goes around, comes around
It’s a weird feeling,
this vice around my chest
Because it’s not sadness,
Not fear, not anger
It’s regret
I feel regret for the actions
Caused by not my owns hands
And for the reasons
I may very well never understand
I’m confused and bewildered
At what humanity has become
But then I pause and wonder
Has it always been there,
and I’m only seeing it now?
And so I sink in
Back into my souls
Like a turtle
Who is scared of the world around
I build up walls
So I don’t see
Any of the horrid acts
Being performed all over me
All long as I’m naive,
Nothing is amiss
After all, there’s a reason they say
That ignorance is bliss
