Write a short story about a child going missing, where it’s up to the child’s guardian angel, the monster under their bed, and their favorite stuffed animal to team up and rescue them!

Then A Wild Little Thing Gets Lost

Not very often you’ll find a child as unique as Froilan Suthers. He was born with the most adorable smile that appeared even when he cried.

His parents often wondered if he was happy no matter what happened to him. He spilled his milk then he was happy to wipe it down and get another.

As blessed they were to have such a positive child, it was also a child blind to danger. It saw everything in a good light.

Whenever they were going on nature walks, the dark creeks of water so bad its black would seemingly beckon Froilan to jump in. Of course a quick hand would grab him before anything could happen.

All children had good sides and bad sides to them.

Froilan’s was just either extremely good or bad.

On his first night in his big boy bed, a snake-like creature slithered out with it big eyes ready to terrify him. Instead Froilan grabbed the snake and hugged it to sleep as his own favorite stuffed toy was still in the wash.

The snake Froilan affectionately called Jaster thought the kid was too sleepy to be scared so he tried again next night. This time Froilan greeted him and introduced him to his friend, Heyah. She was a stuffed animal knitted with love from his mother from one of her most favorite drawings of him. What was supposed to be a majestic horse turned out to be funny looking donkey that Froilan could not sleep without.

The snake could only look slack jawed at how casually the child would hold out his hand in an attempt at friendship. Was he mocking him for being handless?

Nevertheless Jaster would visit every night wondering how to scare the odd child with Heyah guarding.

One day whilst flying a origami paper plane, Froilan hoisted himself up on the windowsill and jumped out trying to catch it as it flew. It was the second floor and her mother was busy building a table and his father was busy making cake. This was as unsupervised as Froilan was going to get and even so he almost dies.

If not for the golden haired angel, with even more golden eyes who picked him by the shirt and dropped him back into the house through the window. Celandine as he would come to know would make sure to lock the window even breaking it a little bit so it would be hard to open later. She was always there when he teetered too close to sudden death.

It wasn’t a shock that at some point Froilan was undeniably lost. The real shock was that he didn’t return after a week. News reports and town efforts couldn’t get him back. His parents prayed to all the religions. They barely even came home as together they went back to back to all the places their sweet little boy could be found at.

They weren’t the only ones searching as Jaster slithered through houses to catch a scent of him. Heyah asked the animals for any sign of where he could have gone. Celandine knew he was alive or else she would have had her heart broken already so she flew high above.

Tremendous efforts all led them to Froilan’s room. They last seen him sleeping here and then he was suddenly gone.

“There an unfamiliar scent here.” Jaster said sniffing out a scent of pine.

“Oohh I found a button!” Heyah said holding up a blue button probably ripped from Froilan’s pajamas.

“Shadow nappers.” Celandine announced. Supernatural spirits perpetually in a childlike state, who persuade other children to come with them on a side where things are not as they seem.

Not even needing permission, the three set off together to the Wack Side. They did find Froilan throwing pebbles onto the water with merkids.

“Cool throw!” He complimented with that signature smile.

Celandine using Jaster as a lasso, used him to make a grab to Froilan. Jaster bit his shirt and then he was in the arms of stern Celandine. Heyah hugged him tight as a form of seat belt.

They were home. Froilan permanently had a tracker with him although with 3 supernatural protectors it was unneeded.
