Present in Your Presence
Lord that’s all I want to be —
but the distractions, they—
surround me,
occupy me.
I don’t hold myself accountable —
I let them drown me,
pull me away from You.
Life tries to humble me,
and I’m stumbling,
damn near spiraling.
I succumb to the weight of it,
and in the middle of that I’m asking —
Where are You?
My soul aches away,
my heart is being changed
in a different direction.
I close my eyes,
try to hear Your word
and I mumble Your name.
Then a ding comes my way —
eyes wide open,
I’m distracted again.
On my phone, scrolling —
I can’t look away.
The thought of You
gets pushed to the back of my brain.
Lost my focus again.
Lord, please don’t give me away to the world —
that’s not what I meant to say.
I feel a pressure in my chest;
I’m longing for change
and I know this is Your gentle way
of telling me to find Your presence
in the present of my pain.
Stop staring at the screen,
fueled by disbelief
of a God who never submits to defeat,
always having a hand reached out to me.
I’m done running away.
What I meant to say was —
Lord, help me to be
present in Your presence
I declare in the name..
