The sunlight on bare skin should’ve been greatly welcomed. The moment it hit Aspen’s shoulders, it set in that this would be the last time they’d feel the sun or feel anything at all. Those shoulders slumped more. They dreaded even seeing the metal blade and dragged their feet with every gravelly step.
