WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a dialogue scene that opens with a creative insult.

(Without using foul language!)

Of course a door, why can’t I be a jar

“You’re a better door than a window” they said aloud, almost absentmindedly as I stood before them.

My eyebrow quirked up in confusion and in response a tired sigh escaped their lips, “I hoped you would get it, but guess you’re also as thick as one as well”

“I’m sorry, things tend to go right through me- over my head” I awkwardly clarified. I could already feel the sweat trickle down my nape, anticipating another failure in social etiquette.

“Well if the boot fits” they snidely remarked under their breath, accenting their words with a dramatic eye roll, “I cannot see through you love, so if you ain’t a window I’d prefer if you’d move aside”

I couldn’t help the nervous chuckle escaping from between my lips, alas, it was not a joke, a plain insult.

“oh, uh-“, immediately I shuffled to my left.

Of course I was in the way, social etiquette lost on me as all things are. Perhaps, making friends at the pub during the world cup wasn’t the best time.
