Stars are little bright spots in a pit of darkness

They show us everything we are and we are not

They highlight the sparkle that we might not see

They highlight freckles that we don’t leave be

They show us the ripples in the lake

They show us the big smile that we fake

They bring comfort to the ones who feel alone

And a beautiful view for the ones who feel home

As human beings we are afraid of the dark,

Even though embracing it leaves no mark

Even though stars need darkness to shine

We would rather be fearful than actually fine
