STORY STARTER
Your character manages to travel to the end of a rainbow, but instead of a pot of gold, they find…
Fairies and Mushrooms
Tyler hadn’t known what to expect when he wandered off from the group and chased a rainbow. But it certainly wasn’t this. It wasn't supposed to be a group of fairies sitting amongst themselves at the end of the rainbow. He paused for a moment as they looked up at him, wide eyed and hesitant. "Hey..." Tyler said awkwardly, unsure of what else to say in the moment. When the fairies continued staring at him, he didn't make any sudden movements. Instead, he glanced around the clearing in the woods before he slid his backpack from his shoulders. After he set it gently on the ground he began digging around. He finally found what he was looking for. A half-eaten granola bar.
Tyler placed it in the grass in between the fairies and sat down on the grass with them. "It's food..." He began, "You know... uh..." He mimed taking a bite, hoping they’d understand. It took a moment or two before a fairy with pink wings fluttered over to the granola bar. The fairy looked over it curiously before grabbing a tiny piece of granola. It munched softly before nodding to the other fairies in approval. Tyler watched as the others fluttered around the granola bar. They hummed softly to themselves as they chewed, and Tyler watched in awe. The sight of these little creatures under this rainbow felt so surreal.
Feeling more comfortable Tyler leaned forward, holding his hand out. When one of the fairies landed in his palm and he brought them closer. The fairy's wing fluttered softly, translucent and shimmering. They were so tiny, just the size of his pinky. "Well, look at you." He said in utter astonishment. When a few more made their way onto his palm he laughed with his chest. Pure joy filling him. He sat with the fairies, watched them dance in his palm and fly around his head. The moment was perfect, but it didn't last long.
"Yo! Tyler!" A voice called out to him, low and irritated. Tyler turned his head toward the voice and saw Michael, his younger brother. "Michael!" Tyler called back to him, his expression full of pure bliss before his eyes fluttered shut. It caused Michael to stop in his tracks. "You good, man?" Michael asked in a worried tone. Tyler nodded in return. "Yeah dude, these fairies..." He laughed. "They're so cool, right?" "They're so cool, right?" Tyler grinned. But Michael just stood there in silence. "Tyler... what the hell are you talking about?"
Tyler paused a moment ready to snap back at Michael but when he opened his eyes the fairies were gone. Instead of the fairies that were dancing around in his palm was a few dead leaves. "What?" He muttered to himself in confusion. He frowned as his eyes searched the clearing but all that was there was him, Michael, and the half-eaten granola bar now covered in dirt. Michael ran a hand down his face in exasperation. "Dude, I'm never letting you have shrooms again." He said to himself more than Tyler. "Come on, let's head back to the group. Your girlfriends been freaking out. She thinks you were eaten by a bear." Michael turned away and began to walk up the dirt path, not being bothered enough to check if Tyler was behind him. Tyler took a moment, The magic had vanished, and with it, the wonder. All that remained was the sting of embarrassment, and a granola bar in the dirt. "H-Hey, don't leave me here!" Tyler called out to Michael as he scrambled to his feet and followed after his brother.
