STORY STARTER
Sirens wailed nearby, signalling the townsfolk to take cover from a danger they had tried to convince themselves wasn’t real…
Not a myth
It was a warm night like any other. My brother and I were laying in the soft comfort of our beds, we had begged our mother to tell us a story. She didn't say no, she never did. There was nothing better than drifting to sleep while her kind voice told of fantasy stories from far far away. Tonight, the story was about pirates, it was a bit scarier than usual. -"That's a scary story mom, I sure hope I never meet a pirate" my brother worried
-"Don't you worry sweetheart, they don't exist. My story is made of pure fantas-"
Suddenly, sirens rang. Sirens that I had never heard before. Their shrill sound resonated through our coastal town, tearing through the quiet. My mother sprung up, panic in her usually calm eyes. -"Get up children. Get up! Hurry!" she urged us. Outside, the siren got louder. People were screaming, crying. There were gunshots.
I ran to the window. My heart skipped a beat.
I turned to my mother, "You lied. They are real".
