POEM STARTER

"“What did you do?”

Write a poem that incorporates this question three times.

Choose any theme you’d like, as long as you use repetition to create an interesting effect.

What Did I Do?

Footsteps echo

As we open the door

To the dermatologist.

Dad is silent.

And i ask myself

What did you do?

Check in

Blurry

Nurse guides us to a room

Silence.

The nurse leaves.

Silence.

"Well," he begins.

"Since my presence

Brings you such anguish

I guess i will find somewhere else

To live."

What did you do?

I don't give into his manipulation.

The nurse is in and out.

Blurry.

Tears.

Wet.

We leave.

And he drives me back to school.

"You know,

I thought we were friends,"

He says.

"I wanted to be," i respond.

What did you do?

He checks me in,

My eyes still swollen,

Red,

Tears streaming

Down my unforgiven face.

All i wanted

Was for him to care,

But it was always too much to ask.

That's what I did.

That was the day we gave up on each other.
