WRITING OBSTACLE
Write the climax of a murder mystery story without any reference to the victim or the crime itself.
The climax can be defined as the point in the story with the highest tension and stakes. How will you drive the story without mentioning the crime?
Death's messenger
The clouds, like a skyscraper, loomed over the town, leaving it in complete darkness. Rain escaped from its underbelly, landing on his grey overcoat. He looked to his right, checking if he was being followed. He wasn't.
Disguised in a black mask he pushed himself into the home. It's impressive white marble floors met him at the entrance. A chandelier, studded with diamonds, lit up the lobby.
Jason pulled off his mask, and breathed in the luxurious air of the mayor's mansion. The only problem. Footsteps.
Death seemed to always follow Jason. His parents. His wife. His children. Its not that he wanted to kill them, but rather a formality. A snake shedding its skin.
He was never afraid of death, part of him longed for its cold hands to grab him, removing him from this mess of a world. But it never did and he has become its messenger. A savior.
Jason left the mansion. No more footsteps echoing through the long hallways. He wiped his knife on his coat and was gone.
