POEM STARTER
"She dropped her dress, and her inhibitions, at the door."
This is an example of a syllepsis, where the meaning of a verb (here 'dropped') is both physical and metaphorical. Write a poem that includes a syllepsis (do not use the example).
Hopeless Paper
Silently, I grasped all the hope I had left
The wind blew my hair like a melody
And I held the paper tightly
A paper filled with my life and dreams
A damp paper sat beneath tired fingers
My tears flowed through the lines
Smudging the memories held by beautiful words
And I tried to flow through the pain and the hurt
The ocean looked back at weary hazel eyes
Its swift beats demanded an answer from me
I tossed the paper, and my whole life, it seems
And I watched the memories sink, all the impossible dreams
And it sunk hopelessly
Like a broken heart
Like a cracked leaf
Almost-- just like me
