The Stain That Brought Us Together

Late, again.

I was once again late to my first lecture of the day. It was at 8am sharp, and it was currently 8:15am.

So now I’m running to campus, faster than I think I’ve ever ran during my high school years, yet trying to be cautious since I don’t want to spill my latte. I can’t handle a lecture without caffeine, and I would be extra late if I had to run to get a new one.

I know I’m already going to get into trouble for my tardiness, but it’s better than missing whatever my physics lecture is about this time.

As I was running, I ran into something solid, yet soft and warm at the same time. I look at what I hit, and it turned out to be a person rather than a telephone pole like I thought I did, and they currently had a large brown stain across their shirt. The person was tall, tree tall, with brown hair that turned blonde at the tips and dark brown eyes.

The pain that shot through me from running into them was nothing compared to the heat that ran to my cheeks. I immediately started rambling and stuttering about an apology.

“I-I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to run into you! I was just trying to get to my class and-“ I cut myself off to look at the stain again, my eyes widening at how large it truly was. “Oh my god, I didn’t mean to do that! I can get you a new one and pay to clean that one, I promise-“

I was cut off by the man. His face was gentle, kind, despite me running into him and getting my coffee al over him, and his tone of voice was just as soothing at his expression.

“Hey, hey, it’s okay. I know how that feels, being late to a lecture and all. You don’t look where you’re going, only at your destination.” He stated with a chuckle, a genuine one, rather than one that was trying to hide disdain.

“You’re not mad?” I was able to ask, tilting my head. I thought this man would be mad, or at least a little annoyed, but no, he’s as calm as ever.

He shook his head, the small smile he gained not leaving his face. “What class were you heading to?” He replied. “Physics.” I said, putting the fact that I’m going to get in a lot of trouble to the back of my thoughts.

“Oh, yea, I see why you were running. He’s quite strict about being on time.” He said in an understanding tone, looking at his phone before speaking again. “I should get to my own class, here’s my number if you would..I don’t know..wanna talk again?” He asked, his voice turning more shy as he showed me his phone number on his phone.

I quickly took my phone out and typed it into my contacts. I didn’t want to seem desperate, but I couldn’t deny that I was excited. “Okay, got it. I’ll text you later..” I trail off, expecting him to say his name now.

“Trevor.” He replied, his smile growing a little. I nod and finish my sentence “I’ll ten you later Trevor, promise!” I state, smiling back before walking back to the direction of the coffee shop.

I didn’t want to be back at the coffee shop since the line gets long around this time, but I think it was worth it, since I met him.

(I thought I would try a different genre to experiment. I hope it’s good. Love ya’ll!💜)
