Gratitude
Write a poem in any style, about what you're grateful for today.
For You
When I contemplate what I’m grateful for
There’s a list inside my heart
Full of people, memories, things I have
But also, things that have come apart
The feeling of appreciation
Is the first item I can count
Such a blessing to be thankful
To feel gratitude in any amount
Next, I count my health, my well-being
That I have this life to live, this day that I adore
To breathe and move; to eat, sleep, laugh and love
Without my health, there can be nothing more
I’m grateful for my family and friends
They are my greatest treasures — life’s truest riches
Sometimes I take them for granted
But they are the ties to which all happiness hitches
My wealth and wisdom must come next
For in giving what I have I help the world brighten
Sharing my abundance, experience and creativity
Keeps me humble, helps my life’s purpose heighten
Then there are the things I’m glad I never had
I’ve learned we can’t always get what we want
I received what I needed, when I needed it
No matter my wish or will; despite my dream or haunt
But above all these things for which I’m grateful —
My heart’s long list is varied, changing, ever new —
Beyond my breath or brethren, my humble gifts or art
I’m grateful for the world of love I found in you.
