Complete
The smell of sweet nectar, dew on the grass
The laughter of children, the clink of a glass
The warm heat of summer, thick in the air
The innocent smile, spread without a care
A glance and a grin, not very discreet
A giggle and a blush, their eyes meet
A taste lingers on the tongue, bittersweet
A hand reaches for the other, complete
She’s pulled up for a dance, in a daze
He’s looking at her, holding her gaze
Her skin is on fire, her heart is ablaze
His eyes are soft, his touch a graze
He spins her around, once and then twice
She twirls, her movements precise
The blue turns to black, it is night
But still they dance, under the moonlight
They dance and dance, through the hours
Through all the fields, filled with flowers
She is a princess, he is her knight
He is handsome, she is a sight
Never have they felt so free, oh-so-free
They shout and they holler, crying out in glee
No more no worry, no more tears
No more pain, no more fears
The air is cool, but still they are warm
Their arms protect each other, no more harm
The stars fade above, it is day
So they collapse, onto the hay
Their feet are sore, smeared with dirt
The air is finally quiet, not a giggle nor a flirt
Their throats are raw, their cheeks hurt
She closes her eyes, not alert
He scoops her up in his arms, strength only for this
She is fast asleep, but he gives her a gentle kiss
Just on the forehead, soft and light
She isn’t awake, but it feels just right
Life works in strange ways, is this fate?
They will walk together into Heaven’s gates
Funny how the stars are arranged,
but so they step into the dawn, forever changed
