It appears my hypothesis has been proven correct, when alone and given the option of either fruit or a sweet treat the subject (my father) will always choose the treat.

I have observed the subject consume fruit on several occasions, but on each occasion he is encouraged by the control (my mother) who will eat fruit without prompt.

When questioned why this is the case, the subject acts in an aggressive manner, telling me to “mind your own business.”

Now with my knowing of this pattern, my new hypothesis is that the subject will stop consuming sweet treats in my presence and instead will squirrel them away.
