POEM STARTER
Paper boats, the scent of lemons, and tears.
Use these descriptors as inspiration for a poem.
Smiling and Letting It Go
As I let my paper boat go
As I see it floating on the water
All I can think of is how it smelled like lemons
Since I spilled some lemonade on the paper boat
When my friend Phil jumpscared me
By grabbing my shoulders and screaming
As I was folding paper and drinking lemonade
The lemonade got on the paper and all over me
I remembered that I got really angry
I got up and I started chasing Phil down
As he was laughing wildly, running from me
It took me a while but I got up with Phil
I took Phil down to the ground
He got filthy, being covered in mud
I felt good, I laughed, I thought I was on top
Until I fell down when mud got slung at my face
Phil got hysterical, seeing me fall over
I wanted to get back at him
So I picked up some of that mud on me
I threw it right back at him
I laughed again, even harder
Then I got tackled by Phil
We were rolling in mud
I finally got him off of me
We looked at each other
We were both completely covered
Covered in mud, lots of it
We were laughing like crazy
It just makes me laugh
When I think about it
I started thinking of Phil
If Phil showed up to watch my paper boat go
I could just imagine what he would do
Probably something really funny in a dumb way
But then I remembered that I could only imagine
Only think of him being here
As my paper boat was still going
Was still floating on the water
I started to tear up
Knowing that Phil will miss a moment like this
And another moment after this one
And another moment after that one
Another, another, another, another
And all the other moments like this one
I was crying from thinking that
But then stopped more tears from coming
When I saw the paper boat go
It made me remember something
Something my friend told me once
Don’t cry ‘cause something’s ended
Be happy that you got to enjoy it while it existed
I started to smile
I smiled watching my paper boat go
I smiled sitting down, next to the river
I smiled being outside
I smiled over enjoying such a nice day
