POEM STARTER
Moonshine and Moonlight
Write a poem which centres on these words. How can you pair these similar words with very different meanings in a poem?
Light Is Light
Beaming down through the slight slit in my window,
Like a spotlight creating focus for the perfect show.
The way it dances on my face,
Encroaching at a tantalising pace.
The light is sharp,
but it doesn't intend to harm,
It cuts through the silence
When I wish for peace it is my good luck charm
The moonshine illuminates the stories of the night,
Lighting the way and creating the ability of sight,
It flows through the gaps of the cloudy sky,
uncovering each layer of every lie,
But the moonlight scratches and breaks,
It’s the blade people keep under their pillow to feel safe,
It protects: it’s loud and it wakes,
Wakes you from your nightmares and keeps you aware,
Aware of the danger out there.
Moonshine and moonlight are best friends,
Creating a positive yet safe space in the night
Being everything you want it to be,
Being your light.
But they are different,
They argue because they are different,
They struggle because they are different
But in the end they realise,
they are the same
Light is light.
The moon is the moon.
