The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Whisper
Have they noticed me yet?
The cold creeps onto my legs yet I feel a flash of warmth,
A flutter of goosebumps.
A flash I’ve never quite seen.
I can hear the chirping, very bright and full of delight, but I can’t seem to notice since it’s long been drowned out.
Have they noticed my absence?
How I’m chilled to the bone,
How I see the fragile, diminuitive sparrow hopping around.
I see the frozen in time trees,
I see the clouds echoes the dark blue colliding gently and ever so lovingly with that subtle pink that you would foolishly suspect is a blue.
I wish I were frozen in time.
I wish time was frozen so I wouldn’t have to run,
I whisper.
I see my goosebumps fading,
I see my name fading,
I see that I
Am
Fading,
like a soft whisper.
