WRITING OBSTACLE
Create a narrative from the perspective of a character who has found out something they would rather not know.
You do not have to reveal what they know, but you should focus on showing how it makes them uncomfortable.

Nessa
A few drinks after work never hurt anyone. Nessa had thrown back two whiskey sodas with Nicky before slipping away into the night. The summer trip—that damn trip—was still the only thing dominating her thoughts.
When she got home, she crept quietly into the basement. Lilly was out cold, sitting upright on the couch with the fourth Harry Potter movie still playing on the TV. She wore nothing but short shorts and a cami, the glow from the television flickering across her relaxed face. Nessa gently laid her down lengthwise, pulled a blanket over her, and yawned. Then she made her way up to the kitchen, hoping for a snack.
As soon as she opened the door, a voice startled her.
“So, do you think the trip’s a go?” Cole asked.
He was leaning against the counter, a whole half-gallon of cookies and cream ice cream in one hand and a spoon in the other. His light brown eyes locked onto hers with that mischievous gleam that always made her shiver. Cole had once been the second-string quarterback back in high school, and even though he’d skipped college for full-time work, he and his gym rat crew had never let their physiques fade.
Nessa groaned. Loudly. “Ughhh. Can we not talk about the damn trip right now?”
“I thought everyone was in,” Zaz chimed in from the corner, only to get a sharp elbow from Max.
Zaz was the most jacked of the bunch—broad chest, caramel skin, and piercing blue eyes that stood out in the dim kitchen lighting. If Nessa had to admit it, he’d be her pick of the three. But something about him also read danger—like he could be as reckless as he was charming. Tonight, though, when his gaze met hers, something in her belly fluttered.
“Lilly still has a week of schoolwork and finals before we can even entertain this summer-fun fantasy,” she said, moving to the fridge to grab the makings of a turkey sandwich.
“She’s online, right?” Max asked, rubbing the back of his neck. “I could tutor her. I was pretty solid in school.”
“I don’t want to ask that of you,” she replied, pulling out cheese, turkey, and bread. “She’s my responsibility.”
“I think he definitely wants to help with that,” Cole teased, chuckling. Max shot him a glare that could cut glass.
“What the hell does that mean?” Nessa turned sharply, dropping a slice of cheese onto the counter, eyes locked on Cole.
“She’s a pretty girl. That’s all I meant,” Cole said quickly, hands raised in mock surrender. But Max’s unease gave away something else.
Nessa narrowed her eyes. “Any of you touch her, and I swear I’ll cut your cock off and shove it up your ass.”
The boys erupted into laughter, though Max’s chuckle came with a bit more sheepishness.
Trying to shake off the tension, Nessa took a huge bite of her sandwich. “So what’s the actual plan for this road trip? Nicky says she’s in.”
“My parents have a camper,” Zaz said proudly. “Big one. All we’d have to cover is gas and cleaning. It’s ours for the whole summer.”
He reached for the other half of Nessa’s sandwich, but she slapped his hand away. The others laughed as Zaz diverted toward the leftover fixings on the counter.
“Huge camper. Hot girls. All summer. This’ll be the best trip ever,” Cole said with a grin.
Nessa cut him a glare. “Keep dreaming, Cole. If you get laid this summer, it’ll be by some stranger in a gas station parking lot.”
“I mean… it’s a plan,” Cole shot back, grinning wider.
Rolling her eyes, Nessa finished her sandwich, said nothing more, and slipped back down to the basement. Lilly had rolled onto her side in her sleep. Nessa crawled into her own bed and let the gentle hum of her favorite toy lull her into darkness.

Lilly
The weekend passed in a blur. Nessa had noticed something was off, and Max, wisely or not, had kept his distance. Maybe he wasn’t as into her as she thought.
But then, Monday morning came.
Lilly was crunching her way through a bowl of Corn Flakes when she felt a warm hand slide along her back.
“Morning, beautiful,” Max whispered against her ear. His breath was hot and soft, making her shiver.
“Where’ve you been, stranger?” she asked with a sly smile, shaking him off as she chewed. “You’ve been ducking me.”
“Weekend parties. Didn’t expect Nessa to let you off the leash,” he murmured, his lips brushing the nape of her neck. “But I can make it up to you.”
He planted a kiss there, then tightened his grip around her waist. A faint moan escaped her throat, and she cursed herself for reacting. His cocky grin only grew as he grabbed her ponytail and gave it a gentle tug.
“Should I make it up to you?” His voice was husky, teasing, sending waves of heat down her spine.
“How?” she whispered, just as she felt his fingers sliding beneath the waistband of her shorts. Her eyes locked with his—glassier than she intended.
Max growled low in his throat and yanked her shorts down in one swift motion, exposing her milky thighs and ass to the morning chill.
Startled, Lilly tried to cover herself, but he pinned her arms to the counter.
“Tell Daddy what you want,” he murmured against her, his breath feathering her skin.
A moan escaped her lips before she could stop it.
“I want… fuck,” she gasped, feeling him push her forward against the counter. She braced herself on her elbows, her legs spreading instinctively.
Max dropped to his knees and buried his face between her legs. His tongue lapped up her slick folds, slow at first, then deeper. Heat spread through her like a wildfire. She gritted her teeth, trying not to moan, but failed.
Then, the basement door creaked open.
Lilly’s body tensed. She yipped, trying to nudge Max away, but he froze.
Nessa’s sleepy footsteps shuffled across the tile. She rubbed her eyes, clearly unaware of the situation unraveling just feet from her.
“Surprised Max isn’t up here yet?” she yawned.
“He was,” Lilly said quickly, eyes wide. “Not sure where he went after.”
Max didn’t move. Instead, his tongue resumed its slow, devilish motion, and Lilly nearly dropped her spoon.
Nessa grabbed her yoga mat and a gym bag from beside the basement door. “Girls invited me to work out. I’m heading out.”
“Enjoy,” Lilly called out, barely keeping her voice steady.
Once the door shut behind her, Lilly whipped around.
“Are you out of your damn mind?” she hissed.
Max looked up, unbothered. “Don’t act like you didn’t want this.”
He stood, lifted her by the thighs, and sat her right on top of the island countertop. Her legs spread without protest. Her core, glistening and wet, was still begging for attention.
Max dropped to his knees again.
She moaned, louder this time.

Nessa
Outside, Nessa tossed her mat and gym bag into the backseat of her car, muttering under her breath. Then she paused—she’d forgotten her water bottle. She checked her phone. There was still time to grab it.
Swinging the door open, she stepped inside and screamed.
There, sprawled on the kitchen island, was Lilly—completely exposed. Max was crouched between her legs, his face unmistakably wet.
Lilly scrambled to cover herself, nearly falling off the counter in the process.
Max just froze, guilty as sin.
“This is why you two have been acting weird?” Nessa barked, snatching her giant, still-empty water bottle from the counter. “Unbelievable. On the kitchen island? Where we eat?”
She stomped back out the door without another word.

“You walked in on them?” Nicky nearly dropped her dumbbell as they stretched together in front of the mirrored wall at the gym.
“Yes. Face deep in her cookie. On the island, Nicky!” Nessa groaned, bending for a toe-touch.
“At least someone’s getting some,” Nicky teased.
“That’s not the point. She should’ve told me.”
“She’s young. Probably her first real thing,” Nicky said with a shrug. “If you blow up about it, she’ll shut you out. Trust me.”
Nessa didn’t respond right away. Her eyes flicked toward the glass door, where two gym bros hovered, watching the girls stretch.
“She could’ve just said something,” she muttered.
Nicky smiled knowingly. “Or maybe you already knew. You just didn’t want to admit it.”
