STORY STARTER

Write a statement from a criminal who is on trial for a murder they feel no remorse for.

Consider why this character doesn't regret their actions.

Acceptance

You only know what I did. You assume why I did it. It may not appear to be life or death to you but if you walk a mile in my shoes you would never doubt it was life or death to me. If you compared the details of his life to mine, they wouldn’t appear to be so different. The difference comes not in circumstances but in the content of character. I am not cowardly for my actions nor do they make me brave. I take responsibility for my actions, but responsibility does not equal regret. It’s possible I may live the remainder of my life in prison, but I have freed others from the insanity inflicted upon them and I can’t ever be sorry for that because to feel any kind of remorse would only be self pitying for the consequences of ridding the world of one evil person.
