Sidekick Behind The Hero
Where there is light, there is always a shadow close behind
She destroys evil, her glow lethal to those that come from the dark
He stays in the dark, having fun chasing after the next victims of justice
Neither good nor bad, he chases after her
For curiosity at first
Then undeniable obsession as he discovers
She isn’t entirely righteous
The law followed isn’t always the best choice
Still every day she defends it, unquestioning
Why he follows her despite her powers being his undoing?
Why she lets him around, never attempting to bring him to light?
They both don’t know
Still the battles they fight together and the secrets they share are theirs
When the day comes that she must target him
He makes no effort to run away
His hands are up and he surrenders
Anyone else he’d fight to the death
For her, he’s happy even to be killed by her majestic hands
Any chance to be near her is a win
For the first time, she dims herself
Making herself vulnerable to all the monsters that lurk in the shadows
Unafraid, she just stares at him
Not knowing what to do
But knowing she can’t do what’s she told for once
This never happened before
Nor has anyone ever protected her
The way he did
They were supposed to be his kind
Creatures of evil energy
Yet he mindlessly killed them as she turned off her powers
Unwilling to use it against him
The people know her as ‘Fairy Lights’
To him, she was just clumsy and funny Irene
In the shadows he was born as ‘Night Raider’
Bearing the harsh days, he was known as an odd man always needing her guidance
The news would come that the city’s hero was beaten by her unlikely sidekick
The truth would be the assignment was impossible to complete
How could you ever order someone to kill who they love?
“I’m not human.”
“Me too. Made in the lab to fight creatures like you.”
“But I’m not supposed to feel anything like I do for you.”
“So you don’t want to eat me?”
“Hmm,not as much as I want to kiss you.”
