Report 456: The Space Between Stars

There's definitely a bit of emptiness between stars. Yes, if you don't look closely enough, that's all you'll find. It's dark in space, and cold, too. It threatens to overtake you if you let it. But if you just relax and look closely, you will find something else.

Tiny civilizations live on the comets that shoot past you. If you grab one (woe to your hands) you can watch them go about their days. Little people go to the grocery store and ride their bikes and walk their dogs. There's elections and families and lovers sneaking out to find quiet.

But when you let go of the meteor, you are still not entirely alone. You find yourself orbiting a planet the size of Earth. Then you are falling, falling,

Falling onto the ground. It is softer than you thought, and you feel no pain. In fact, the ground squishes down, down,

Down and springs back up, shooting you back into space. You are free-floating again, and gazing at the universe in all its wonder. The space between stars is not as empty as you thought.
