POEM STARTER
Write a poem from the point of view of someone who has travelled around the world.
Consider how this character's experience may affect their tone, voice, and expression.
Across The Globe
When I stepped out of my comfort zone
And stepped out across the globe
I realized my life and faith was not my own
I’m but a flicker in the greater strobe
All across the world, it seems to me
Everyone has the same dreams to be free
Traveling far and wide, to many foreign lands
Makes me see the truth, helps me to understand
Up in the Andes of Peru, the coca tea they drink
Helps them bear the elevation, helps the shamans think
Down under in Australia, aboriginals go walking
Dreams of their ancestors, in the outback talking
On the tiny isles of Greece, the dead ever mourned
Orthodox, they signed the cross, their faith is never torn
Off the beaten pathway, over vast Pacific reaches
The Japanese pray on their knees, to hear what Buddha teaches
In emerald Ireland, the mist is full of mystic myth
Of phantoms and fairies, flung from where and with
Out in the desert of America, far west as you can go
Sky and Earth are godly, parenting the mortal flow
Across the globe, I have heard many diverse voices
Come to appreciate their faiths, understand their choices
So many native tongues, all saying the same things
Every person in every culture, hoping for the light and freedom tomorrow brings.
