POEM STARTER
Write a poem based on a classic children's story.
You don't have to recount the story, but try to draw ideas or themes from it. It doesn't have to be based on a fairytale; it could be a Disney story, a myth, or even a traditional family tale.
In Deep and Lonesome Woods
Once there was a girl,
Who had golden locks of hair
And always ventured on her own
In deep and lonesome woods
One day she came across
A cottage so quaint and sweet
So when she came upon the door
Not even a mouse did peep
For when she opened the door
She came across a room
So cozy and large inside
With a spread of food insight
She went up to the table
And took a look around
There were three bowls in front
All filled to the brim with porridge
The first bowl was quite cold
She shivered with every bite
There was too much cold ice
So she left the rest alone
The second bowl was quite hot
Her mouth burned with every bite
The steam kept rolling quickly
So she moved on with fast speed
The third bowl was just right
Not too cold and not too hot
She guzzled every bite
Until there was nothing left to eat.
The girl was now quite full
She was ready to explore
So she ventured to the next room
And was ready to take a seat
The first chair was too hard
It hurt to sit down
She jumped down right away
And moved on to the next
The second chair was too soft
She sunk into the pillows
She struggled to get out
Then she left for the last chair
The last chair was her perfect size
But as she took a seat
She fell right to the ground
In a heap of splinters
The girl was quite ashamed
Of breaking the strangers chair
She was quite ready to sleep
So she headed to the next room.
The first bed was too hard
It hurt her back and head
She rolled of right away
To see what else was there
The second bed was too soft
She bounced and bounced and bounced
It was fun, but not for sleep
So she bounded right on off
The third bed was perfect
Not too hard, too soft, just right
She closed her eyes quite fast
And fell quickly asleep
The time passed quite quickly
In a moment she awoke
But now fully rested
She had quite a start
Above her three bears stared.
One too tall.
On medium sized.
And one just her same hight.
She jumped right out of bed
And ran and ran and ran
Never to be seen again
In deep and lonesome woods
